I- The word smallest is in the comparative form and it would have the same meaning if it was written smaller.
II- The word that is classified as a relative pronoun and it could be replaced by the word which without changing the main idea of the sentence.
III- In “that only had one teacher and one student” would be written “that only had had one teacher and one student” if it was changed into past perfect tense.
IV- The use of the past simple tense in the excerpt expresses the idea that the school does not exist anymore or has more students and teachers nowadays.
